Sons of Arrakis release Volume III on 22 January through Black Throne Productions. "Rise of Disaster" is out as the first song from it.
They have numbered every album since the first, which in a genre built on Dune references is either a joke about chapter headings or simply a band that cannot be bothered with titles. Either way the sequence is consistent: Volume I in 2022, Volume II in 2024, this one two years after that.
The recording was done in pieces, at Studio Red Tube and in home studios, by Luc Boivin along with two of the band. What was not done at home is the mix: Karl Daniel Liden handled that, and his name on a stoner record is a reasonable predictor of how it will sound, which is wide and unhurried with the bass carrying more than its share.
Montreal has quietly become one of the better addresses for this music, and Sons of Arrakis have been at it since 2018 without ever going near a major label. Three albums deep, still on a small Canadian imprint.
