Soulfallen release Uncharted Plains on 20 November through Inverse Records. Their last album, The Promise of Hell, came out in 2012.
Fourteen years is long enough that most bands come back apologetically, with something tight and short. This is the opposite: seven tracks averaging over six minutes. The vocalist Kai Leikola says the songs evolved into long and even longer compositions, that they roll forward as a heavy mass, and that the album is unhurried on purpose, meant to be a counterpoint to the rush of everything else.
It is also one continuous story, picking up the apocalyptic arc of the earlier records and setting itself after them, in a world that is already dead, where the narrator brings itself into existence by force of will. A Promise of Storm is the moment that consciousness wakes up, and it is the quieter end of the record rather than a representative sample.
The band formed in Jyvaskyla in 2003.
