Spiritbox released a new single, "Mourning", today through Pale Chord and Rise Records. It is the band's first new music since Tsunami Sea, the album they put out in March 2025, and the first indication of where they go next.
The song sits at the quieter end of what the band does. Courtney LaPlante's clean vocals carry most of it, moving through restrained passages that build into heavier textures without ever fully breaking. Guitars, percussion and ambience gather and recede around the vocal rather than driving over it.
The video was co-directed by Alex Bemis and Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer. It leaves behind the black and white look of the Tsunami Sea campaign for outdoor locations, an ethereal honeycomb structure and a recurring hooded figure.
Tsunami Sea entered the Billboard 200 at number 26 and topped the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. "Soft Spine" from that record earned the band a third consecutive Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
The band have just finished a North American run supporting Evanescence and return to Europe and the United Kingdom this month with Jinjer and Dying Wish, including their largest headline show there so far at the OVO Arena Wembley in London. In November they play with Metallica at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, and they close the year at Good Things Festival in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
