Spiritus Mortis release No Human Contact on 15 January through Svart Records, and Thuggee is the song that goes out ahead of it, with a video, tomorrow.

Thirty eight years and six albums is a rate of one every six years, and that is the fact worth sitting with. This band formed in Alavus in 1988, which makes them older than most of Finnish doom and older than the word people use for it now, and they have never once behaved like a band with a career to manage.

Kimmo Peramaki sings, Jussi Maijala and Kari Lavila play guitar, Teemu Maijala is on bass and Markus Kuula on drums. The writing on this one is shared between Jussi Maijala, Peramaki and Lavila, with words by Marko Yla-Hakkinen.

They also recorded it themselves, mixed it with Sami Jormanainen and had Peramaki master it and shoot the video, which is how a band that has outlasted four decades of labels ends up doing most of the work in house.

Thuggee is named after the Indian cult of stranglers, which for a doom band is a title doing its job.
