Splinter Flesh have released The Punisher, which they call their first single, and it is on Bandcamp and nothing else.
The order of events is unusual. The band formed in Würzburg in 2024 and put out a full length called Pandemic in October of that same year, ten songs long, also Bandcamp only. A first single arriving two years after a first album is not how the sequence normally runs, and it suggests a group that made a record before deciding how to sell one.
"Pure death metal. No compromises. No mercy," is how they describe it. The line is doing exactly the work you expect, and the single is the test of whether anything behind it is new.
Fabian Schwarz, who also plays in The New Black, is the recognisable name in a four piece completed by Sven, Jona Halbritter and Kai Pasemann. The band remain unsigned, which in this case looks less like a wait for an offer than a working method.
Song titles on the album run from Psychoscum to The 5th Estate, which places the lyrics closer to the news than to the graveyard.
