Sternweh have released Sehnflucht, their first album, independently, through Bandcamp and Spotify.
It is one person's record. Christian Witt, who writes horror and fantasy novels, started the project in Germany in 2025 and recorded, mixed and mastered the whole thing in a home studio. His wife Yvonne sings on parts of it. What comes out is atmospheric black metal with shoegaze pulled through it: walls of guitar and screamed vocals set against acoustic passages and clean singing, one pushing against the other rather than taking turns.
The title is a word that does not exist, built out of Sehnsucht, longing, and Flucht, escape. The record is about wanting to be somewhere else badly enough that the wanting becomes the place.
