Suffering Quota are streaming Sisyphean Life in full before it arrives on 18 September through 7 Degrees Records and Tartarus Records. It is their fourth album.
The Groningen quartet push grindcore toward death metal, crust and hardcore across twelve tracks, and they use repetition and sudden shifts in weight on purpose: the record is built to feel like a cycle that keeps returning to where it started. The title takes Sisyphus literally and turns the punishment into a description of depression, boredom and the dull despair inside an ordinary routine.
"At the same time, the record allows for brief glimpses of hope, fleeting moments where it feels as though the trial might finally end, or the rock has been dragged to the top of the mountain," said singer Gerald. The last track on each side of the vinyl turns briefly toward hope or determination before the cycle starts again.
