Teemu Mäntysaari played Symphony Of Destruction on Finnish television on Saturday night, in a Halloween edition of the Yle programme Elämäni Biisi, broadcast live from Tampere.
The show is a guessing game. Public figures sit on a couch, each having secretly submitted a song that mattered to them, a house band and a rotating set of singers perform them, and the panel has to work out who chose what. The episode was billed as Metalloween and Noora Louhimo, formerly of Battle Beast, was among the singers.
Tampere is where Mäntysaari is from and where he picked up a guitar at twelve. He joined Wintersun in 2004 and has been in Smackbound since 2015, which is the career a Finnish guitarist builds before anyone outside Finland knows the name.
He took the Megadeth job in late 2023 when Kiko Loureiro stepped away, and played on the self titled album that arrived in January. Playing a song written in 1992 on a Saturday night panel show in his home city is a long way from either of those rooms.
