Temple Nightside have announced Cenotaph Severance, their fifth album, for 30 October through Iron Bonehead Productions, on CD and vinyl. Soul Defilement is streaming now.
It comes six years after Pillars of Damnation and it brings in a guitarist called Ignus Fatuus, whose other work is a short list of the most airless records Australia has produced: Portal, Impetuous Ritual and Grave Upheaval. That is a lineage rather than a line up note, and it tells you where the record is pointing.
The announcement says the album continues the tighter arrangements and more direct riffing of Pillars of Damnation, which is the opposite of what the Portal connection might suggest.
The band formed in 2010 and have four albums behind this one: Condemnation in 2013, The Hecatomb in 2016, Recondemnation in 2018 and Pillars of Damnation in 2020, with demos and splits between them.
