The guitarist Peter Joseph has rejoined The Absence as a permanent member, thirteen years after leaving. He joined the Tampa band in 2003 and stayed a decade, playing on their first three albums, From Your Grave in 2005, Riders of the Plague in 2007 and Enemy Unbound in 2010.
"I'm stoked, I feel like I'm back where I belong," Joseph told Lambgoat. "This band has always been the core of who I am musically. Writing and recording with Jeramie and Jamie all these years later feels like a fresh, new chapter in an old book that everyone loves."
The two he names are the drummer Jeramie Kling and the singer Jamie Stewart, which is as close as the announcement comes to saying there is a record on the way. Writing and recording are the words used, and nothing has been dated.
The band formed in 2002 and have six albums behind them, the most recent a self titled record in 2024 for M Theory Audio. Joseph's decade covers the stretch of melodic death metal that most people who know the name know them for.
