Girlschool's show in Tokyo on 21 January 1982 comes out on 6 November as Tokyo Breakdown, through Cleopatra Records, on CD and on vinyl for the first time.
The date matters more than the format. That night the band became the first all female British band to play live in Japan, and one of the first New Wave of British Heavy Metal acts of any kind to get there, at a point when they had two albums out and were still being treated at home as a support act with a gimmick.
Kim McAuliffe remembers arriving with no idea what to expect and being screamed at everywhere, starting outside a McDonalds around the corner from the hotel. On stage it got worse, or better: the screaming was so loud, she says, that they thought they were the Beatles.
You can hear it on the recording, mixed into the opening tape of aircraft noise and sirens. Sixteen songs follow, almost all of them from Demolition and Hit and Run, through Victim, Kick It Down, Breakdown and Race With The Devil, which McAuliffe introduces as the single they had over there, and out on Tush. It is a live album Cleopatra is releasing as part of a run of them, and this is the one with a first attached.
