Todd La Torre filmed himself singing Iron Maiden's Powerslave in his home studio, and the useful part is why. He was warming up before continuing demo work on the next Queensrÿche album.

"Just to kind of break my voice in, I don't care if it cracks; I don't care if it sounds crappy, but just to get things going, I sometimes like to sing along to some of my favorite songs," he said. He is working in Pro Tools, and he picked a song most singers would not choose as a warm up.

Posting it is the choice worth noting. A singer in his position has every reason to publish only the finished thing, and a clip that may crack is the opposite of that.

He has been equally unprecious about vocal care. Asked in July what he does to protect his voice, he said he has followed the rules and sung badly, and had Coca-Cola and a slice of pizza before some of the best performances of his life. "I don't do any vocal warm ups, really."

What this confirms for the band is small but real: there is new Queensrÿche material being demoed now. He also put out a solo single earlier.
