Trivium have put out Dead Inside of Me, the first song from an eleventh album that still has no title and no release date. The last one, In the Court of the Dragon, came out in 2021.
Bassist Paolo Gregoletto said the song arrived at the end of a long writing day last summer, out of a riff he had been carrying for years. "It started with a riff I'd had kicking around for five or six years called 'Slam', looping over a simple groove," he said. "A lot of the most fun song ideas come from blending two contrasting ideas together. Take a death metal riff and play it like a stadium rock song. Let the screaming and singing weave together until they feel like one voice."
He traced the lyric to honne and tatemae, the Japanese pair of terms for what a person actually feels and the face they put on for everyone else.
The song is also the first recorded sign of Alex Rudinger behind the kit. Trivium open a North American headline run on 5 November in St. Petersburg, Florida, with In Flames, Orbit Culture, Fit for an Autopsy and Frozen Soul along for it.
