BMG, working with Rhino Entertainment, will release Totally Twisted: The Studio Albums 1982 to 1987, which collects Twisted Sister's studio albums from exactly that window. There is a five LP box with each record on its own coloured vinyl and a five CD box. Pre-orders are open.

Five years is a narrow brief and it is the right one, because those five years are the band's entire recorded arc as a going concern. They start as a New York City club act with a following built on sheer repetition and end as an arena band. Stay Hungry, out in 1984 and certified multi-platinum in the United States, is where that turns: it produced We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock, two songs that have outlasted most of what was on the radio beside them.

The line-up on the first four albums was Jay Jay French and Eddie Fingers Ojeda on guitars, Dee Snider on vocals, Mark The Animal Mendoza on bass and A.J. Pero on drums. Pero left after the Come Out and Play tour and former Good Rats drummer Joey Seven Franco played on Love Is for Suckers in 1987, the record that closes the set.

Sonic Perspectives calls it the complete studio album story of the period, and that is accurate rather than promotional: after 1987 there was no sixth album of that era to leave out.
