Obrij release In the Era of Ruins on 24 September through Neformat Family and Robustfellow. The band are from Uzhhorod, and two of them are serving.
Mykola Maha, who writes the words and sings them, is in an electronic warfare unit. “In the conditions of war, unexpectedly and not by our own choice, we discover new talents within ourselves, take on new work, master military craft, and become specialists,” he says. “Before 2022, it would have been hard for people with civilian professions to imagine such a thing, but today we are all different people.” That is the subject of the song, and it is not about soldiers so much as about everybody a country turns into something else.
Petro Budai, the drummer, wrote and recorded every instrumental part, and he is in the armed forces too. The guitars and bass went through tube amplifiers, microphones and pedals, HM-2 and Tube Screamer clones among them, with no amp simulation anywhere; the Swedish tone on top of a hardcore frame is the sound the band have always had.
The song also opens an EP planned for 2027. The last full album was Йосип in 2025.
