Týr have released "The Guardian Lie", the second song from their self-titled tenth album, which arrives on 17 November with no label behind it.
Both halves of that are worth noting. A band thirty years into a career calling an album after themselves usually means a reset, and self releasing it means the reset is on their own terms. Týr spent most of their career on Napalm Records, which makes this the first time the Faroese band have handled a record alone.
What they do has not needed a label to explain it for a long time: Faroese and Nordic ballads played as metal, in a language almost none of the audience speaks, with the melodies carrying what the words cannot.
The song came out with an official video, and the album is three and a half weeks away. "The Guardian Lie" is the second piece of it made public, which for a record with no label pushing it is already a steady campaign.
