Underwater Father have released "Karsimysten Tie", the first song from a debut album called Taivas Kaareutuu Narkissoksen Ylla, which Inverse Records expect in early 2027.
The band formed in Kotka in 2024 and have moved quickly: two singles and an EP last year, this single now, and an album within three years of starting. Inverse have long been the label that picks Finnish bands up at exactly this stage, and the four of them, Samu Haatainen, Jan Lindberg, Antti Lampinen and Joonas Nieminen, are getting the standard treatment.
The song runs just under five minutes and the band describe it as the heavier end of what is coming, built around the image of a fire that burns away what a person has been hiding behind.
What they say about playing it live is the part worth keeping: "On stage, we scream at our fears, rather than trying to project an image of something we are not." For a young band in a genre built on costume, that is an unusual thing to lead with.
