Vanishing Point have put out The Faceless, the newest single from Eremition, the Australian band's seventh album, due worldwide on 20 November.
It follows Bring Me The Night and Sirens, and it carries the subject the whole record keeps circling. Singer Silvio Massaro describes a world where identity has gone missing. "It's a haunting reflection of a world where identity is lost, voices are silenced, and humanity hides behind the masks we create," he says. "When everyone becomes a shadow, the truth is the only thing that remains." The song is built the way this band have always built them, on his upper register and on guitar harmonies that run in parallel rather than trade solos, although the album is said to go heavier and darker than anything since.
Eremition will be the first full length since Dead Elysium in 2020, and six years between records is not unusual for them. Guitarist Chris Porcianko offers an explanation that at least has the virtue of consistency. "For us as a band, it's always been quality over quantity," he says. "When the quality is there, that's when it's the right time to put it out into the world." The single is on streaming platforms now.
