Velnias will put out Substrate Haruspex on 30 October through Eisenwald. It is their fourth album and the first since Scion of Aether in 2020, with only the Rending of Dyadic Convolution EP in between.

Eight pieces, mixed by Stephen Parker and mastered by Greg Chandler, whose own band Esoteric has spent thirty years teaching doom how to take its time. The first of the eight online is Corporeal Anathema.

The band formed in Nederland, Colorado in 2006 and has kept the same two people at the centre of it since, P.J.V. on guitars and vocals and A.J.S. on drums. What they play sits between black metal, doom and folk without settling into any of the three: Sovereign Nocturnal in 2008 and RuneEater in 2012 already sounded like a band writing in twenty minute weather rather than in songs.
