Vindsval, who has run Blut Aus Nord for three decades, has started a second project called NΩX, and its debut album Stases arrives on 11 December through Debemur Morti Productions. The first piece from it, T.S. / Testimonium XII, is out now.
He went straight at the obvious question. "We are fully aware that many will question the decision not to release this music under the name Blut Aus Nord, given the unmistakable lineage," he said. "The answer is simple: this is not our intention. Blut Aus Nord's short and medium term plans are taking an entirely different direction."
That last clause is the news inside the news. A man announcing a side project has also just said that his main one is going somewhere else, and said it in the same breath.
What NΩX is for, in his words, is "an incursion into territories where sonic matter distorts and decays, reaching its most extreme and sinister frontiers", and he calls it a genuine offshoot that takes shape through the darkest echoes of the parent band.
Thrashocore file it as experimental black metal from France, which is also what people have been calling Blut Aus Nord since the 1990s.
