Wolf have released "Walpurgis Night", the third song from Hour of the Wolf, their tenth album, out on 20 November through Fireflash Records.
The constraint they set themselves is the best detail in the announcement: nine songs that would fit on one side of a ninety minute cassette. "Our goal was to create an album that you would want to listen to from start to finish and then play again," Niklas Stalvind said. "It's diverse enough without losing the classic Wolf sound."
He is not precious about the single either. The chorus, he says, is one "that even your tonedeaf grandma can sing along to", and on the video, made again with Sno Drake, his verdict is three words: "More is more."
The Swedes recorded the whole record in their own studios, with bassist Pontus Egberg producing and mixing, Stalvind co-producing and Thomas Johansson mastering. Twenty eight years in, doing it themselves is cheaper and, on the evidence of the first three songs, no worse.
