It was written once, forgotten, and rewritten from the words up. Xentrix have released a video for Nil By Mouth, from Allied With The Enemy, which Listenable put out on 30 October.
The band say the music was first demoed for Seven Words, the previous album, and then disappeared under a wave of newer ideas at the time. It surfaced again by chance while they were writing this record, was given completely new lyrics and vocals, and ended up one of the faster things on it.
The words follow what the band call an involuntary communication shutdown: being stuck inside a spin of thoughts running too fast and too tangled to be processed into anything sayable. Musically it is the band's usual arrangement, classic thrash with a modern production tightness over it, and the double-time snare doing most of the driving.
Xentrix formed in Preston in 1988 and were part of the first British thrash wave. Kristian Havard and Dennis Gasser have been in the band since then, across both of its runs.
