Repugnant have not reformed, but something of theirs has moved. V/H/S/Mixtape, the ninth film in the horror anthology series, premiered on Shudder on 9 October, and inside it is a new music video for Premature Burial, a song from 2003, supervised by Tobias Forge.
Forge played in this band before Ghost existed, which is the reason anyone outside Swedish death metal knows the name at all. Repugnant made one album and broke up, and the catalogue has been a collector's item ever since.
What makes the item more than nostalgia is the credit list. The performance filmed for the video names Erik Danielsson of Watain, which means the song was played again by someone rather than merely licensed, and that the people around it are from the same scene the band came out of.
Chaoszine's own framing is careful and deserves to be kept: back, at least temporarily. A video inside a film is not a reunion, and nobody involved has announced one. It is the most the band has done in twenty years, which for a group this mythologised is enough to count as news.
