Battlesnake have announced Bogpocalypse and the Annihilation of Lucifer for 19 February and released Bog Bringer, its third single, after I Killed Satan and Mud Apocalypse.
The Sydney band are not a subtle proposition and have never pretended otherwise. Asked what the record sounds like they refuse the genre question entirely and answer that it is a nineties Goosebumps novel with guns, which tells you more about the register than any subgenre label would.
The label copy follows them there: somewhere between a campfire ghost story and a loaded weapon, swampy and gleefully pulpy. Three singles out this far ahead of a February release is a long campaign, and for a band still unsigned it is also the only way to run one.
It will be their fourth album, from a catalogue that already runs past twenty releases in a handful of years. Seven men in matching robes playing heavy metal about bogs is the kind of thing that reads as a joke until the records keep arriving on schedule.
