Chosen Undead release Cinder of a Fading Dream today, on their own, with no label behind it. Twelve tracks, and the band have only existed since 2024.
The record collects the ground they have already covered and then keeps going. Karmic Justice, Mother of Slain, After a Long Summernight, Lone Wolf and Your Prediction all went out as singles, and Epic Disaster gave its name to an EP earlier this year. That leaves half the album new: Forlorn & Forgotten, Ruins of My Consciousness, Early Years, Smile for the Camera, The Way of Knife and Out of the Abyss.
The six of them formed near Frankfurt and name As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage and Parkway Drive as the records they grew up on, which tells you exactly where the choruses sit and how the breakdowns are built. The lyrics go to dark myth and legend rather than to the personal, which is the one place they step away from the template.
Two years from forming to a self released full-length is fast. Whether it holds up is now a question anybody can answer, because the whole thing is out.
