Cro-Mags are close to finishing their first album in six years, and Harley Flanagan gave the numbers rather than a vague promise.
"We got nine songs tracked and six more songs written that we're gonna be tracking in a couple weeks," he told WSOU 89.5 FM. "I always try to get a couple of extra in there, so six will probably turn into eight." That is seventeen songs cut for one record, which is the habit of somebody who would rather throw things away than run short.
He expects it out early next year, without naming a month. It follows In The Beginning from 2020.
The single Wired For Chaos, which came out in June and was the band's first new song in six years, is already part of it. "I actually recorded Wired For Chaos and the other eight songs all together. So it's a continuation of that same session."
On what it sounds like he names the ingredients plainly: Motörhead, Bad Brains, Discharge and Black Sabbath. "Everything heavy that I grew up listening to has always found a way to sneak into my music." The riffs arrive without a system, he says, often recorded into his phone while walking around. They went back to a forty year old song earlier in the cycle.
