The Dillinger Escape Plan are putting Dissociation out again on 11 December, ten years after the record they chose to end the band with.

The expanded edition is remastered, with new artwork and eight previously unreleased demos: Limerent Death, Symptom Of Terminal Illness, Wanting Not So Much To As To, Low Feels Blvd, Surrogate, Honeysuckle, Manufacturing Discontent and Nothing To Forget. A deluxe three disc version adds an instrumental take of the whole album.

That instrumental is the one worth thinking about. This band wrote music that people describe with words like chaos and violence, and most of that reputation came from how it was played rather than what was written. Stripping the vocals off it leaves the arrangements exposed, and they will hold up, because they always did.

Ten years is also long enough to see what the record did. Nothing that has come since in this corner of heavy music has made a better case for stopping at the top, and plenty of bands have tried the opposite.
