Fit For A King have released Dirt, the third new song written for the deluxe edition of Lonely God. The expanded version of their eighth album arrives on 30 October through Solid State Records, with Blood Pact, out since June, and Steady Doom completing the additions.
All three were recorded with Daniel Braunstein, whose work with Spiritbox and Dayseeker is the clearest signal of what this band wants its heavy parts to sound like now: compressed, clean at the edges, built to carry a chorus rather than bury one. Three songs with one producer, months after the album, is a band treating a deluxe edition as a short record instead of as leftovers.
Ryan Kirby's explanation of the lyric is blunter than the title. It is about struggling to accept fault for your own failures, and about how inventing stories in which other people caused your downfall only speeds the destruction of what you wanted. Metalcore writes a great deal about blame; it rarely puts it on the narrator.
The band has been on Solid State since 2012 and has built eight albums there, which in this scene counts as a long marriage.
