Nicholas Barker has played on records that defined two decades of extreme metal. He is also waiting for a kidney transplant, and the newest thing with his name on it exists partly to pay for it.

Noctis Imperium have put out I Am, a single piece running close to nine minutes plus an intro, with Barker on drums. Every purchase on Bandcamp goes toward the GoFundMe campaign raising money for his treatment while he waits.

Barker's history is Brujería and Lockup now, and before that Dimmu Borgir and Cradle Of Filth, which covers a large share of what British and Norwegian extreme metal sounded like in the nineties and after.

The piece itself is abstract and experimental, and the band describe it as moving from the root of existence to a point where duality stops meaning anything. Hugo Fuguet, formerly of Baphomet, plays a solo on it, and Alfredo Demey of Mulato adds saxophone, which is not a common instrument in this particular corner.

It was recorded at Estudios La Cabaña by Isaias Guilarte with help from Daniel Arrieche, mixed by José Goitia and mastered by Alex Krull of Atrocity and Leaves' Eyes at Mastersound. Fabio Rincones did the cover.
