Obscura have published a statement about what they describe as a number of legal matters, and it is unusually specific about the machinery while naming nobody at all.
Since February 2026, they say, criminal complaints and applications for prosecution have been filed in Germany “concerning several individuals in connection with publications and conduct which we consider to contain defamatory, insulting, factually inaccurate or otherwise potentially unlawful content”. Civil steps are running in parallel, over losses and other claims.
The band stress this is not one incident. The material handed to the authorities covers publications and conduct “dating from 2015 to the present day” and takes in disputed factual allegations about the band and its members, copyright and intellectual property, the publication of personal information, and other conduct they have asked German authorities to examine.
They also say the effects have gone past the band. Several international companies and professional partners have been affected, some of them reporting threats or other improper pressure, and some with significant financial losses; the statement says those companies are providing documentation to the authorities. Obscura add that the public allegations made it significantly harder to obtain visas for performances in China.
The statement does not say what the underlying dispute is. The public context is that Steffen Kummerer has faced allegations from former members that material they wrote was used on A Sonication. Christian Münzner raised such allegations publicly in early 2025 and said then that he intended to look at legal action.
The band's closing request is that fans, press, business partners and other musicians stay out of it and let the process run.
