Odious Sanction release Overwhelming Hatred for Humanity tomorrow, on their own, which is how a band from Cleveland that started in 1993 still gets to do exactly what it wants.

Nine tracks. The Shield of Mind, You Shouldn't Betray Us, Controlled and Divided, Unwarranted Judgement, Bitter, Nothing Left Inside, the title track, Life's Pain and Ignition Sequence. Read that list again and you have the record: betrayal, judgement and what is left afterwards, with no metaphor doing any work.

What they play has hardcore in it as much as death metal, which is the Cleveland inheritance and not a crossover decision. The riffs land where a pit needs them to and the tempo does not stay put long enough to be comfortable.

The Shield of Mind went out through Slam Worldwide ahead of the album. Thirty three years in and self released: that is a choice, not a fallback.

A band this old with this little interest in being signed tends to have worked out what it wants from the exercise. The record arrives tomorrow with nobody between it and whoever goes looking for it.
