Four years in a drawer, and it took a record about mortality to let it out. Of Virtue have released a video for Flatline, the second single from Death Of The Altar, which Arising Empire put out on 2 October.
Co-vocalist Tyler Ennis said the song was written in 2022, after his father had a severe heart attack. "Everything in his life changed forever, and in many ways the same thing happened to me," he said, describing his own gastrointestinal and mental health problems since 2016 and the years he spent without a diagnosis. He said there were stretches when he pictured his own body not moving because he was not looking after it, and that his father's heart attack was the wake-up call he needed.
The band's own description puts the song in the same place as the rest of the record, melody and intensity turned against each other rather than layered. It was written with Lee Albrecht, who has worked with Bilmuri and The Devil Wears Prada, and Evan McKeever, who has worked with Starset. The previous single, The End, went to SiriusXM Octane's Test Drive.
