Asked by Rexx Ruger on Pod Scum how touring has changed since Cannibal Corpse started almost forty years ago, Paul Mazurkiewicz did not reach for the usual answer.
“We'd be lying if we said, oh, it's just as exciting and gung-ho as it was in the early days,” he said. “But it's what we have to do. It's part of our job, and we wanna be out there, still playing to the fans. But the older we get, the harder it is to be away and to live on a bus with everybody.”
What keeps it workable is unglamorous and specific. Eat properly, drink water, sleep. Walk every day. Get off the bus, because ten people in one vehicle is a test of anybody's sanity. He also notes, without complaint, that the tours come round less often than they used to, and that this is fine: fewer of them, used well, suits everyone in the band.
They have been doing it their whole lives, he says, so at least they know how.
