Windwaker have released dna, a month before smile, you're on camera. arrives on 23 October through Fearless Records. It is their third studio album.
The band described the song as an internal struggle with identity and self worth, “the feeling of being trapped by one’s own nature”, and the tension between wanting to change and feeling stuck in the same patterns, as if the flaws were hardwired. They also named the theme the album keeps returning to: authenticity, and what they called disillusionment with superficial validation, with references in the lyrics to doing it for the likes and to people switching sides.
The band formed in Wagga Wagga in 2014 and moved to Melbourne the following April. Liam Guinane sings, Justin Keurntjes plays guitar, Indey Salvestro bass, Connor Robins keyboards and Chris Lalic drums. Two EPs, Fade and Empire, came before the albums Love Language in 2022 and HYPERVIOLENCE in 2024. They signed to Fearless in 2021.
