Wolfbrigade have put out a video for Doomrunner, from Howl From Underground, which Metal Blade Records release on 9 October.
The band gave the song its own thesis and did not soften it. “The universe owes us nothing. That's where 'Doomrunner' begins,” they said. “What keeps us moving anyway? Maybe not hope. Maybe instinct.” Thirty one years into a band, that is either bleak or the most honest answer anyone gives to why they are still doing it.
It is the twelfth full length, counting the three they made as Wolfpack before the name changed, and it follows Life Knife Death from 2024. The record also has them rethinking how they record, which for a band whose whole sound is the d beat running flat out is not a small thing to say out loud.
They started in Sweden in 1995. Micke Dahl sings, Jocke Rydbjer and Erik Norberg play guitars, Johan Erkenvåg plays bass, and David Stark is back on drums after a first run from 2002 to 2015. Crust and d beat is where hardcore and metal have been trading the same riff for forty years, and this band has spent three decades in the middle of it.
