Zornheym have released The Funeral March, the third song from Descending Into Madness, out on 2 October through Noble Demon. It takes Chopin's funeral march as its starting point and puts riffs, cinematic orchestration and a little Scandinavian folk on top of it.
The choir has a job in it. “The choir takes the role of mourners and pallbearers,” the Swedes say, grieving the fate of Dr. Bettelheim's wife as they carry her out. In the story the album tells, this is where the doctor stops coping: grief, guilt and despair finish the work.
Zornheym have been building that story since the beginning, around the asylum at Zornheim, and each record adds to it. Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns came in 2017 and The Zornheim Sleep Experiment in 2021.
