Zarraza have put out a video for their version of Kreator's People of the Lie, filmed in Karaganda during their 2026 tour, and the timing is not an accident. Kreator play their first ever Kazakh concerts on 17 November in Astana and 18 November in Almaty.
The recording itself is older, from the covers EP Kreated in Blood, out in July 2022 alongside versions of Gojira's L'Enfant Sauvage and Slayer's Raining Blood.
What makes the EP worth more than a curio is what the Almaty band put into it. The arrangement carries a kobyz, a Kazakh bowed string instrument, and across the three covers they worked in Kazakh instruments and throat singing. The neo ethnic folk group Arkaiym guested, with Anar Kassymova on kyl kobyz and Abzal Arykbaev on shan kobyz and throat singing.
Even the sleeve argues the same point. Vladimir Chebakov's artwork answers Kreator's Coma of Souls by putting the two bands' mascots together, and it was collected in Masterpieces 2022 from Heavy Music Artwork.
A band covering the group whose tour bus is about to arrive in their country is ordinary. Doing it with the instruments of that country, four years before the tour was announced, is the part worth hearing.
