Forbidden have released a video for Single Point Failure, the second song to get one from the self titled album that marks their return after sixteen years.
Craig Locicero describes it as the one that reaches furthest back. "Musically the song recalls the era of Twisted Into Form," the guitarist says, pointing at the syncopated, interlocking riffs and at a detail that will mean something to anyone who has argued about this band: the instruments are in standard E, as they were on the first two albums. No drop tunings, no thickening.
The subject is an electromagnetic pulse. Locicero sets it out as a scenario rather than a metaphor: a solar flare large enough to kill every piece of electronics on earth in a fraction of a second, then months or years without telephones, internet or any infrastructure that runs on a chip, which he expects would produce panic and violence on a scale nobody has seen.
It is a very Bay Area way to write a song, and the band were the youngest of that scene when they started. The guitar solos, he says, are meant to explode out of the speakers, and on that count the song does what it was told.
