Short Biography

Formed in Knoxville, Tennessee in February 2006 by vocalist Phil Bozeman and guitarists Ben Savage and Brandon Cagle, and named after the London district where Jack the Ripper committed his murders. Alex Wade and bassist Gabe Crisp joined soon after, Zach Householder replaced Cagle in 2007, and the band has played with three guitarists ever since. The Somatic Defilement came out on Candlelight in 2007, and every album since This Is Exile (2008) has been released by Metal Blade. Our Endless War reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 in 2014. Clean vocals first appeared on Mark of the Blade (2016) and carried through The Valley (2019) and most of Kin (2021), two albums built around Bozeman's childhood. Hymns in Dissonance, released in March 2025, dropped the clean vocals for a heavier sound. Since 2007 drums are the only position that has changed hands, and Brandon Zackey, formerly of Enterprise Earth, toured with Whitechapel from 2022 and has been a full member since 2024.
